Just another WordPress site
I’ve been toying with HTML5 and CSS3 in spare moments the last week or two and I’ve got a spanky new layout predicated on a modified workflow here at Black Fez Productions. Of course, now I want to break from WordPress and go with something more Java-like. Which, of course, means moving everything over to a server sitting in my basement. Which, of course, means the redesign and workflow remain on a test server and you don’t get to see it.

Bottled the second nut brown ale tonight. Only two more weeks until we can drink sweet nectar of the gods again!
Thinking about doing something a little different with the labels. This will probably make Jim mad but I want to personalize each brew a little more. Anyway, so far I’ve come up with this:
Last few times we brewed in the back yard, I supplied in-the-shell peanuts for snackers. There is a squirrel (brown/red unfortunately) that came down and begged. We finally put the bag of nuts on the ground and let him serve himself. Well, at least until he stopped eating and started burying. No fair taking food home from an all-you-can-eat buffet!
First attempt at mocking up a label for our little winery. Still some cleaning up and aligning to do but not bad for a few hours of work if I say so myself.

from: A List Apart: Articles: Understanding Web DesignOne could just link to A List Apart and be done with it. That would be short shrift to some excellent content though. A List Apart has damped the zealotry a bit in recent years and most of the preachy comes out of empirical observation these days. Take this article and its author for instance. Zeldman used to be all fire and brimstone but now measures his statements (somewhat). Where the article might have lambasted the designer who revels in brochureware, it now quietly mocks.
And underneath it all is a really good article on what web design is and why it isn’t like designing in any other media.
Probably my favorite day of the year…the day we get the extra hour moving from Daylight Saving to Standard time. Oh yeah!
So I spent the extra hour revamping the blog a bit. While I was high on the blue background with wacky box thingers and on involving the dogs for some reason, I like this theme a bit better. I think I’ll mute it a bit more—the background color on the posts kind of screw with the Zen I had in mind. Still, I think we’re in a place where we’re mostly open for business. There’s still the per-category stuff to go over and translating the whole look and feel of The Millionaire’s Holiday site into the WordPress universe.
